So small

We may think its grand
to have enormous shows
like the Olympic Games
or a Royal Wedding

Perhaps we should not lose sight of the fact
that in fact
we are
so small

That’s not to say we can’t do big things
but
our nearest neighboring star
is 4.3 light years away
itself miles less than the mean 4,000 light years between stars in the solar system
well if we took off in an airliner – around the equator
it would take 49 hours to get round

And at that rate
to be arriving at that star now
it wold have to have taken off in 3200 BC
and that star is much closer than the mean
so perhaps we should spend less trying vainly to explore such an immense space
and turn our attention fiercely
on preserving our own small globe
